Random Pretty Boring Things by David Marx (video)

Random Pretty Boring Things from dmrx on Vimeo.

Here's a short video by my friend David Marx. I thought I'd post it not only because it's pretty (and really, it's not boring or that random), but also because it features music by Metronomy--"This Could be Beautiful."

Metronomy, first mostly known for awesome remixes, and now more known for original music, is getting some buzz right now.

The video is best seen in HD at Vimeo.

My new home: SPACE

Sunday, August 17, 2008

Heyo, so I've been rather busy, which is why I haven't posted for a little while. News for me! I'm interning at a new music venue called SPACE, which is near Chicago in Evanston, IL. It is a really neat place. Attached to a swanky pizzeria and a recording studio, Evanston SPACE is my new home away from home. The people are awesome, the food is good, the music is fantastic, and the space itself is great. People describe it as urban but rustic.

Anyhow, check out the website. http://evanstonspace.com

If you're in the area, grab a pizza and catch a show! If you're a band and might like to come play for us, you can find our contact information on our website (or if you use Sonic Bids, find us there).

Anyhow, that is my plug. :) Expect reviews of concerts from there in the future. Here's a video of Anna Fermin's Trigger Gospel performing at Evanston SPACE.

Oh dear oh dearie me I am excited. Dan Deacon and friends and friends are coming to play for us in a circle. We will watch them, huddled and thrashing about, and they will serenade us circularly.

At 87 cents per band, I am a happy happy one.

Musical links for a Tuesday in August (Spearhead, Arms, Adam Green)

Tuesday, August 5, 2008

1. Take a listen to this track by Michael Franti & Spearhead. It's called "Say Hey (I Love You)."
"It seem like everywhere I go/The more I see the less I know"

2. Another favorite of mine, Obscure Sound, has a post about Arms. I particularly enjoy "Whirring."
"Now's the season for taking chances/Crooked smiles on crooked glances"

Actually now that I listen again, I like "Shitty Little Disco" maybe more than "Whirring." It has a fun intro. It makes me think of guitar players on roller skates at a roller rink with little kids running behind them with their amps. I think one little one, the tiniest of all, is running in front with the mic. And then this one guy is in the middle with a synth. Maybe he has pink hair. But really, all of these are just Todd Goldstein, and he's in bed, dreaming. That's Arms.
"Someone had a party downtown and I knew the crowd/And everyone was strange lookin' sideways at my funny sounds"

3. Adam Green is fun, per usual. Here's a new Daytrotter session.
"Ring ding battering ram"

Los Campesinos! - "We are Beautiful, We Are Doomed" - a new album

Friday, August 1, 2008

This new Los Campesinos! album is set to be released October 13th. Entitled "We are Beautiful, We are Doomed," we are reassured that "it's no B-Sides and rarities or "songs that weren't good enough to be on the album cobbled together with some remixes and field recordings of Cardiff's indie scene"; it's ten all-new tracks that none of you have ever heard before." Well, I was a fan of the last one, hopefully this one is even better.

Tracklisting:
1. Ways To Make It Through The Wall
2. Miserabilia
3. We Are Beautiful, We Are Doomed
4. Between An Erupting Earth And An Exploding Sky
5. You'll Need Those Fingers For Crossing
6. It's Never That Easy Though, Is It? (Song For The Other Kurt)
7. The End Of The Asterisk
8. Documented Minor Emotional Breakdown # 1
9. Heart Swells/Pacific Daylight Time
10. All Your Kayfabe Friends
