Philip Allen

Thursday, July 31, 2008

So last February, I took the Metra out to Wheaton College to see Sam Beam of Iron & Wine play an acoustic solo set. The opener was Philip Allen, and surprisingly, I thought he (and his accompaniment) was better than Sam's solo performance. Philip's an alum of the college. That being said, take a listen over at his MySpace.

He also has a Flickr with wonderful photography. He says, "It's part of my long and violent endeavor to make digital pictures look more like film," and he seems to be making a pretty good job of it. :] See his photos here.

The new Dr. Dog album

Friday, July 25, 2008

Short post. I'm lazy.

Ian Cohen at Pitchfork is wrong. The new Dr. Dog album (Fate) is wondrous.

That is all.

EDIT: Here is a good post.

Fleet Foxes - White Winter Hymnal (NEW VIDEO!)

Monday, July 7, 2008

Yes! More Fleet Foxes! A music video! David knows how much I love claymation. Not to mention, it looks like the Planet Earth shot with the growing and dying mushrooms.

These not-so-fleeting foxes are so sad...even little Skye Skjelset. And the rabbit... Somehow I can really imagine Robin Pecknold as an old man, but in a beautiful and graceful way.

Anyhow, this is a beautiful, cyclical music video. Check out a clip of them playing this song live in Chicago earlier this year here. If you're near Chicago, remember they're also playing a free show Thursday, July 17th at Millenium Park. :D

Bloc Party Countdown

Sunday, July 6, 2008

What's this all about? A countdown to 7/7 appeared on Bloc Party's website and as a Facebook application.

Check it.

Perhaps a sooner-than-expected release of their third album? That would be lovely-lovely! Perhaps a new track released, a cover, or just announced release date for their new album. Who knows, the way bands release their albums these days...We shall see in...15 hours, 37 minutes, and 41 seconds.
